My 3 Key Learnings

  1. Aim to create a personalised shopping experience. Starting points can include: eRx Express, Med-advisor, or Healthnotes as they all make it easier for customers to order and manage their prescriptions. Your website/e-commerce planning should include features such as Live Chat for website visitors. More advanced features can involve: in-store pickup, health services bookings and information.
  2. Ignore Mobile at your peril. With current use of smartphones 80-85% of Australia (we are known for adopting technology quickly and early) this will only grow in importance. As discussed we will be found on mobile, and the customers may be happy to browse and research, but due to increasing omni-channel (social, digital, and physical all at the same time or involved in the same transaction) their demands will soon increase. Future opportunities lie in use of i-Beacons, NFC, Mobile Payments, Mobile Apps, and Virtual Shopping Walls.
  3. Where to start your e-commerce journey? 1. Shopify off-shelf (i use this) integrates well with WordPress website, can embed products or whole categories (get a feel for it), 2. Facebook Page (more than half of Amcal/Guardian stores have started) to engage and converse with your patients on a platform they spend huge chunks of time on each day (not just the young ones!), don’t forget your helpful content, 3. Health Services and Online Bookings, 4. Use Free Tools like Google Analytics to test and measure your traffic and customer engagement.
